Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 (depending on experience)

Account Director and, at times, Managing Director. Outline of role To manage projects from conception to completion whilst nurturing and growing client accounts and relationships.


Job summary

The role of the Account Manager is to take ownership of a portfolio of clients and deliver multiple projects and campaigns with excellence, from brief through to completion. You’ll be the first point of contact for your clients and be responsible for building strong working relationships, managing day-to-day activity, and ensuring the efficient, effective and seamless delivery of all tasks and outputs. This is a role that requires a strong combination of communication, organisational, financial, and project management skills – as well as knowledge across the wider marketing communications landscape.



Core Remit

  • Manage a portfolio of accounts including client service, project management, and financial administration
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with clients via exceptional account management
  • Receive and interpret client briefs, understand all requirements and manage the process, production and delivery of projects
  • Carry out project/client-related research and project scoping requirements • Write creative briefs and lead internal project management across disciplines such as copywriting, design and digital
  • Track client scope of work requirements and reconcile financial retainers
  • Create project status and contact reports and hold regular status calls and account reviews
  • Create project timing plans and monitor all stages to guarantee smooth delivery
  • Deliver projects and campaigns on time and on budget
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor creative resource requirements within the agency
  • Liaise with external third-party suppliers and freelancers and maximise profitability levels
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and proposals, both written and verbal, and present creative work to clients
  • Manage project budgets, costing, forecasting and invoicing
  • Monitor financial targets and forecast actuals across all accounts
  • Track and manage supplier costs and ensure timely job closure
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing clients and build relationships with new ones
  • Understand the full range of Maclean’s services and communicate these effectively to clients seeking additional opportunities to upsell
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing accounts
  • Devise solutions that meet client’s brief and budget
  • Show understanding of clients’ businesses, markets, and wider communications landscape
  • Develop case studies that demonstrate agency success and impact

 

Key responsibilities

1. Account management
Oversee the day-to-day running of accounts, ensuring work is delivered on brief, on time and on budget. Be the first point of contact for your clients. Maximise profitability and identify opportunities for account growth. Use project management tools consistently and efficiently.

2. Administration
Keep well-ordered files and documentation and adopt an accessible filing system. Maintain up-to-date status reports, financial documents, and client records. Support the wider team through robust admin processes.

3. Finance
Take ownership of financial accuracy across all clients. Estimate project budgets within the understanding of requirements and sign these off with clients. Maintain organised financial records, deliver projects within agreed financial parameters, and flag issues proactively. Ensure punctual and accurate invoicing.

4. Communication
Instil confidence and build client trust through clear and timely communication, both written and verbal. Communicate confidently with internal teams and clients and nurture strong relationships. Present ideas and plans effectively in meetings and written documentation.

5. Organisation and attention to detail
Ensure all work meets agency standards. Follow relevant processes and procedures, and ensure all outputs are checked and approved before sharing with clients to deliver errorfree work with excellence. A strong attention to detail is expected. Have first-class organisational skills to aid the smooth running of projects and accounts. Organise and prioritise time effectively.

6. Problem solving and negotiation
Be a strong negotiator who can balance different perspectives. Keep communication open with both clients and internal teams to reach collaborative solutions. Provide solutions to conflicting ideas and problems.

7. Entrepreneurialism
Show initiative and actively seek opportunities to add value. Deliver work that exceeds expectations and help grow the account. Keep abreast of new developments and changes within client sectors and businesses.
